The Ins and Out of Event Insurance : Special Event Liability
Your venue may be requiring you to have event insurance, or perhaps a friend or family member recommended it. If you are wondering why you should have a special event liability policy, what it covers, or even if it is worth it, Eventsured is here to set the record straight.
What?

Event insurance is financial protection from all the worst-case scenarios you could be held accountable for. Much like a smoke detector, the majority of the time you don’t end up actively using it; however, if an electrical fire breaks out at midnight, you will be really glad it was there.
The broad categories covered include: bodily injury, medical payments, property damage, liquor liability, and lawsuits. We’ve broken these categories down in the image to the right. These are the same protections found in a homeowner’s insurance policy, but for an event instead. All come standard in any event liability policy purchased through us. They cover everything from buying an ice pack because a guest twisted their ankle to an intoxicated partygoer totaling their car and suing you as the event host.
While the above items are standard, they are not all we offer. Some key event insurance features to look for and venues often require include: editable limits (up to 3-million), the option for additional insureds, clauses for waiver of subrogation and non-contributory wording, and more. You can read about these add-on features and what exactly they mean in our FAQ. We also have a chatbot for those who don’t like talking to people, and a friendly customer service line for those who do.
Why?
We’d all like to think that our event will go off without a hitch, that our guests will be respectful and have our best interests at heart. Unfortunately, that’s not always the case.
Let’s say your family member wants to go after the venue because they tripped over a step. Without event liability insurance, you may be collateral in the lawsuit. At my parents’ own wedding, a mystery guest broke the head off a jaguar statue. Twenty years later, and long after the property damage was paid off, they found the missing head at a friend’s house. The situation might have been funnier had my parents had event insurance. With Eventsured’s no deductible policies, they wouldn’t have had to pay a dime for the transgressions of a drunken youth.
In short, the reason why is clear. Accidents happen. Accidents are expensive, and as the event host accidents are your problem. Unless that is, you make them ours.

How?

Our online quote calculator takes minutes to help you bind coverage. It starts by asking for basic information about your event, such as the type of event, state, and number of people. That is enough to get your quote started.
From there, our quote form will dig into the nitty gritty. One of the first set of questions is about setting reimbursement limits. If that seems like gibberish to you, fear not. We autofill the limits with the industry standards. These are editable, but the preset amounts will let you know the norm.
Next, we will ask you questions to confirm there is nothing at your event that would void the policy. We call these “exclusions”. If we can’t insure your event, we want to be very upfront about it.
Finally, the form will ask for venue details and billing and for you to confirm you’d like to purchase. It’s that simple!
If you need assistance at any step, we are always happy to help. Our customer service team can even be reached during off hours through our emergency customer support line. 888-882-5120
